Vacation & Blocked Times

Define when a staff member cannot be booked - as a vacation over a date range or as individual days in the calendar.

Recording an Absence

Open the staff member under JoomBook → Staff and switch to the Holiday tab. Two options are available.

Vacation as a date range

  1. Enter a Label in the vacation table (e.g. Summer holiday)
  2. Choose From (start date) and To (end date)
  3. Optionally From time and To time for an absence covering only a few hours - leave both empty for all day
  4. Click Save

The entire period is no longer bookable. In the calendar of this form it appears blue, hour-based absences are hatched and individually clicked days are red.

Hour-based absence. If you also enter a From time and To time, the absence only covers that window - before and after it, bookings are possible as usual. A staff member with a doctor's appointment from 14:00 to 16:00 stays bookable in the morning and from 16:00 on. Leaving both times empty blocks the whole day. For a single day the From date is enough; the To field can stay empty.

As many rows as you need. Use Add another absence below the table to add as many rows as you need - handy for entering several known dates in advance. Each row has its own delete button, and blank rows are dropped on saving.

Individual days

For individual days off (e.g. sick days), click the day directly in the calendar. Marked single days appear red; clicking again removes the mark. Use the toggle to switch between year, month and week view.

If appointments already fall inside the blocked period, JoomBook reports this on saving with the date, time and customer name (including the second staff member for pair appointments). Existing appointments are not cancelled or moved automatically - you decide whether to reschedule them, hand them to a colleague or cancel them.

How an absence looks in the appointment calendar

In the appointment calendar under JoomBook → Appointments, an absence is not a coloured area but an entry of its own: slate grey, with a lock in front of it and the name of the staff member. The rule there is consistent: colour means appointment, grey means not bookable.

Clicking that entry asks for confirmation and then removes the block. The other way round, you can create a block directly in the appointment calendar by dragging across a period in day or week view, or across two or more days in month view.
